DURANGO, Colo. (Reuters) – A Colorado judge ordered two teen-age girls to pay about $900 for the distress a neighbor said they caused by giving her home-made cookies adorned with paper hearts.

The pair were ordered to pay $871.70 plus $39 in court costs after neighbor Wanita Renea Young, 49, filed a lawsuit complaining that the unsolicited cookies, left at her house after the girls knocked on her door, had triggered an anxiety attack that sent her to the hospital the next day.

Taylor Ostergaard, then 17, and Lindsey Jo Zellitte, 18, paid the judgment on Thursday after a small claims court ruling by La Plata County Court Judge Doug Walker, a court clerk said on Friday.

The girls baked cookies as a surprise for several of their rural Colorado neighbors on July 31 and dropped off small batches on their porches, accompanied by red or pink paper hearts and the message: “Have a great night.”

The Denver Post newspaper reported on Friday that the girls had decided to stay home and bake the cookies rather than go to a dance where there might be cursing and drinking.

It reported that six neighbors wrote letters entered as evidence in the case thanking the girls for the cookies.

But Young said she was frightened because the two had knocked on her door at about 10:30 p.m. and run off after leaving the cookies.

She went to a hospital emergency room the next day, fearing that she had suffered a heart attack, court records said.

The judge awarded Young her medical costs, but did not award punitive damages. He said he did not think the girls had acted maliciously but that 10:30 was fairly late at night for them to be out.

Well, alot of people, have been asking me about pictures also, it appears that having a working journal in place is not enough for y’all anymore you want pictures of matthew too. That’s ok, I will get some new ones online shortly, but first I have to justify why the gap in pictures online..

Long Answer:

About 3 or 4 or 5 or so months ago I was reaching over to hand my Nice and Spiffy Cannon S55 camera to a friend/coworker that shall remain nameless, ( I Told you I would protect your identity Ian ) to show him some picture I had on it. Rather than being totally competent human being like the rest of us and turn around to see the picture on my outreached camera he decided to swing his whole torso in a movement to stand up, thereby knocking my $499 camera to the ground and breaking the LCD.

At first this wasn’t a “Real” issue as I thought it still functioned properly but upon closer examination I discovered that it was taking pictures, but they were almost always out of focus also. So I gave up on the digital revolution until I had more money to purchase a new camera and started using the trusty 35mm Nikon SLR’s again. These of course worked great and didn’t explode on me like the Cannon did but it left me with a huge problem. A problem that anyone who is as lazy as I am will understand. I now had real photos I had to scan if I wanted to share them. This just wasn’t going to happen for the following reasons:

A) The scanner is located 3 feet out of range of the scanner USB cable, which means I need to move the scanner onto the desk to use it.

B) The portion of the desk that is dedicated for special scanning days is always dirty so I need to clean at least that portion of the desk first

C) I have to crawl under the opening of the desk that I barely fit through to hook up the scanner to the computer

D) Everytime I get down there I forget that I have no flashlight and have to squibble back out from under the desk and then back in with a flashlight to do it all over again

E) I don’t have enough power outlets so I have to debate while under the hot desk which accessory I can do without till I feel like repeating this all over again.

As you can see, this is alot of work for a lazy person just to even get the scanner hooked up. So, I have no digital photographs of Matthew except for the random few I captured on my camera phone and have sent to most of you already.

BUT.. There is good news…

Sony’s Brilliance has returned to me in the form of a Sony 7.2 pocket sized digital camera that has every feature I could ever want and over 1 gigabyte of Memory Stick Pro Media I am prepared to start spamming you all with photos of the Great Jafar(Matthew) and his Deathglider(My new Car)

This whole journal thing isn’t working for me.. I don’t like my results.. maybe I should go back into seclusion:
